Home Energy Assistance Program (LiHEAP)
If the strain of heating and other bills are greater than you can manage, there are a number of resources you can turn to. Some programs can help directly with your heating fuel costs, while others can help you make ends meet in other ways.
You may qualify for state assistance. LiHEAP is a federally funded program administered by the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) that provides financial assistance to eligible households to help pay for their home heating costs.
LiHEAP can also help with heating equipment repair and replacement, and if medically necessary, will even help with cooling equipment. To be eligible, a household must meet income guidelines; currently 60% of the State Median Income or below, and either pay directly for heating costs, or pay rent that includes heating costs.
To learn more or to see if you are eligible, visit the LiHEAP web site.
If you have an EMERGENCY or questions about LiHEAP not answered on the OTDA website, you should call the OTDA office correlating to your county of residence.
